Opened in 1928, The San Diego Zoo is one of the world’s premiere zoological parks and conservation societies. Divided into several different areas of focus, the zoo transports guests all over the world via immersive environs and painstakingly-recreated natural landscapes. The first area encountered just past the main entrance is the Lost Forest, an area dedicated to the animals and horticulture of the rainforest. In Discovery Outpost, an elaborate children’s zoo is surrounded by examinations into the world of reptiles and insects. The Urban Jungle educates guests on the towering giraffe, while the nearby Outback focuses on the animals from the land down under. Africa Rocks features a large kopje exhibit, allowing guests to witness the various ecosystems that exist in a vastly misunderstood continent. Spanning the eastern side of the park is Elephant Odyssey, the world’s largest and most comprehensive elephant exhibit. Asian Passage explores the world of lion-tailed macaques, while pandas can be found in a large habitat at Panda Canyon. At the north end of the park, Polar Rim provides opportunities to witness polar bears and even reindeer in their recreated natural setting.
