San Diego Wild Animal Park Guide

Opened in 1972 by the San Diego Zoological Society, The San Diego Wild Animal Park is one of the nation’s most expansive and renowned zoo enclosures. Part tourist attraction and part animal research and educational center, the Animal Park also sports the world’s largest veterinary hospital and an expansive conservation and breeding ground for at-risk species. Offering recreated natural animal habitats based on respective continents, guests can visit native animals in the Asia and Africa sections of the park. Most famously, the Journey Into Africa Tour takes guests on a 2.5-mile safari bus ride around acres of lush savanna, rocky mountains, and beautiful lakes. The main entrance area, Nairobi Village, is home to most of the park’s shopping and dining facilities, including a variety of smaller exhibits, including lorikeets, gorillas, and flamingos.
