“it’s tough to be a bug!”

Attraction Type: Multi-sensory 3-D film.

Location: Just outside Flik’s Fun Fair; across the walkway from the eastern side of Grizzly Peak.

General Description: Join Flik as he helps you to understand bugs as friends, not pests.

Will’s Review: An oddball of a show if there ever was one, but great fun indeed! This show utilizes the cast of characters from the Disney-Pixar feature film “A Bug’s Life.” A 3-D show, in-house special effects and Audio-Animatronics feature Flik the Ant as your host as you learn that it truly can be tough to be a bug. The show begins with an Audio-Animatronic Flik peeking down from the ceiling and starting the show, inviting his guests (you) to don your bug eyes (3-D glasses) to join him as honorary bugs for the show. All begins well with a showcase of different bugs’ defense mechanisms – including the acid-spewing termite and the smelly stink bug. Everything soon goes awry, however, when a live version of Hopper, the villainous grasshopper from the film, arrives and takes offense to the fact that Flik made a bunch of humans “honorary bugs.” After showing a brief film clip from old 1950’s black and whites of humans trying to kill a group of over-sized bugs, Hopper declares war on the humans and begins trying to exterminate the audience. His efforts are stopped, however, when a giant lizard shows up and eats him. From then, Flik resumes the show, which climaxes with a musical number educating the human guests on how bugs contribute to the world.

Touring Tips: Visit anytime; the longest you may have to wait is about ten minutes, which is roughly the duration of one show. Any large group of people in line will easily be consumed by the theater.

Family Info: While enjoyable and fun for children, teens, and adults alike, the film is no doubt geared towards the younger set. Ironically, the film’s special effects are very intense and very realistic. Capitalizing on creating a multi-sensory experience, the friendly 3-D tarantula is scary enough to some children, but the theme and feel of the show gets very dark and intimidating upon Hopper’s entrance. Use caution and judgment before taking the smallest tykes to see this show.

Variations: This attraction can also be found on Discovery Island at Disney’s Animal Kingdom.
