Location: The Main Street Vehicles board throughout Town Square and Central Plaza; signs indicating their loading areas are posted curbside.
General Description: Travel up and down Main Street, U.S.A. aboard one of four turn-of-the-century vehicles: Horse-Drawn Carriage, Omnibus, Fire Engine, or Horseless Carriage. One-way transportation only is provided between Town Square (in front of Main Street Station) and Central Plaza (in front of Sleeping Beauty Castle).
Will’s Review: The Main Street Vehicles are one of the small pieces of charm that add to the overall atmosphere of the park. While not at all a necessity (it is a short walk between Town Square and Central Plaza), they do provide a bit of fun and variety. While all four vehicles usually operate on the busier days (and on these days it’s actually faster to walk), usually only the Horse-Drawn Streetcars and Fire Engine operate on the slower days. The clickity-clack of the horses and the ring of the trolley bell are just as much a staple of Disneyland as the castle, with the Streetcars being the one vehicle actually worth waiting to take a ride on. The Omnibus is another exception, as not many people this side of the pond have ridden in one, and the novelty is worthwhile. As for the Fire Engine and Horseless Carriage, they are often cramped and one can’t help but feel a bit lazy as they are chauffeured back and forth at eye-level with the other guests.
Touring Tips: All of the Main Street Vehicles cease operation at dusk; and not all the vehicles may be operating everyday. In addition, the vehicles are taken offline approximately one-half hour before each parade’s start time and resume operation shortly after the parades’ conclusion.
Family Info: Children seem to enjoy all but the Horseless Carriage, which is simply a car. The most fun for the younger children is both the Fire Engine and the top level of the Omnibus. Disabled guests may have trouble navigating the spiral staircase to the top level of the Omnibus. All the Main Street Vehicles require wheelchairs and strollers to be folded and placed on board.
Variations: Main Street Vehicles can be found at three Disneyland-style parks. In Tokyo, only the Omnibus runs through World Bazaar, their version of Main Street, U.S.A. Honk Kong Disneyland does not feature any vehicles.
